The Yellow Devil Mk. II is a Devil-class robot that features in Mega Man 3, appearing as the boss of the second Wily Castle stage. It is the successor to the original Yellow Devil created by Dr. Wily.

Appearance[]

The Yellow Devil Mk. II sports a humanoid body made of the same malleable polyalloy as its predecessor. While it displays a distinct chest and shoulders, it lacks a proper head, as is standard with all Devils. Its Devil Core appears as a large white eyeball with a blue iris. A red gem also appears on its torso, though it does not serve any clear purpose.

Mega Man 3[]

Attack Pattern[]

As with the previous model, the Yellow Devil Mk. II first starts the fight by coming from the left as segmented body parts. The pattern is different than before, having 24 parts that move in the same way every time, but the body parts come out at a slower rate. Once fully formed, the MK. II's eye forms and will attack by firing shots at the player. Like the original Yellow Devil, it can only be damaged from the eye.

The main differences are that due to Mk. II's new build, the eye is always at the same spot every time, but the eye shoots 3 projectiles, one at a time, before splitting part. From here on out, it's next body attack will be dependent on which side of the screen it's on. If coming from the right side, it will do its initial pattern from the beginning to go to the left. If coming from the left side, however, it will utilize a new attack that chunks all the body parts into 5 columns and compacts those columns into a single body part. These 5 compacted body parts will bounce from left to right in short arcs, and reform the Mk. II on the right side. The only way to dodge these body parts reliably is to slide under them as quickly as possible. Do NOT hang out on the right when this attack is occurring, as the contact hitbox will appear early and hit the player for 8 damage (a 4-hit kill). Once the bouncing attack is finished, the MK. II waits a little bit longer before firing its eye shots.

Here is the pattern:

24 18 15 8 2
23 17 12 9 5
20 16 13 11 6
22 21 10 7 3
19 14 X 4 1

Weaknesses[]

The Yellow Devil MK. II is weak against Hard Knuckle, which can defeat him in five hits. Shadow Blade also does considerable damage to it, and as its speed is higher that the Hard Knuckle, it can be used to defeat the MK. II faster. Since the MK. II has no i-frames, Shadow Blades can be used to potentially defeat it in one cycle before it can split apart a second time. However, this strategy requires more skill to pull off.

Appearances in other media[]

Mega Man Megamix[]

The Yellow Devil Mk. II appears in the story Metal Heart from the manga Mega Man Megamix. In the manga, its body was created by Dr. Wily and could take any shape, but its brain was taken from a broken toy robot that Wily found in a junkyard. All it can say is sounds with the letter "M".

When the Mk. II was activated, it didn't obey Wily's commands and left his hideout. Wily ordered his Robot Masters to bring it back, and if not possible, destroy it. They fought against the Yellow Devil in the streets, and it drew the attention of the population. Dr. Light and some of his robots were in the same city for the party commemorating the installation of the new Mother Computer, and they noticed the commotion. Mega Man goes to the local and joins the Robot Masters to stop the Mk. II, and it became scared when Mega Man attacked near its eye, digging a tunnel underground to escape and going out of sight.

The party moved to the central control building to see if the Mother Computer could locate the Yellow Devil, and once there, it suddenly appeared in front of them and moved upstairs. Mega Man and Shadow Man managed to follow him, but the others were left behind by the building's security system. Mega Man and Shadow Man battled against the Yellow Devil while it moved up, and Shadow Man was damaged near the Mother Computer's room. Dr. Light noticed the security system was acting strange, as it closed in on them and not for the intruder, the Yellow Devil. Light asked Auto to access the Mother Computer, and discovered it was emitting a "SON" signal, which he didn't understand. He then asked Roll to search for data about the Mother Computer's previous job, and discovers the Mother Computer used to be the main control computer of a toy company. Wily said he used the brain of a toy robot he had found, and Light noticed SON was actually the English word son (the manga was originally released in Japanese), and the Yellow Devil was actually a kid trying to see his mother. They asked Mega Man and Shadow Man to stop attacking the Devil; however, Shadow Man did not hear them and stayed true to Wily's previous orders, attacking the Yellow Devil's eye with a Shadow Blade. It collapsed and was destroyed. The same Shadow Blade also hit the Mother Computer with the attack, cutting off the city's energy supply.

Because of the damage, the Mother Computer could no longer be used as a Mother Computer, and the old one was placed back. Dr. Light repaired the new Mother Computer and the toy robot's brain, and placed them together as the control computer of a park.

The Yellow Devil Mk. II also appears briefly in Issue 46 of the Mega Man comic book by Archie Comics. He appears in Wily's castle after Mega Man has faced Break Man but before he has challenged the Doc Robot. The two battle briefly battle in Issue 47, with Mega Man quickly dispatching the Yellow Devil with a shot to the eye with the Hard Knuckle, with Rush also sinking his teeth into the eye at Mega Man's command for good measure.
