Long Haul serves as the resource transport for the Constructicons. He is little more than a lowly labourer and he absolutely despises his job, frequently complaining about his unglamourous position. As dull as his job may be, he knows that someone has to it. The other Decepticons are usually content to let him whine as much as he wants, so long as he keeps doing the task he's built for. If there is a bright side to Long Haul's service to the Decepticons, it's combining with his fellow Constructicons to form the titanic Devastator.
History[]
G1 cartoon and movie[]
In the original Transformers cartoon series, there are conflicting accounts of the origins of Long Haul and the other Constructicons. In the episode "Heavy Metal War", it is mentioned that Megatron had created the Constructicons on Earth. This is contradicted in a later episode, "The Secret of Omega Supreme", which shows that the Constructicons were Cybertronian architects who had been reprogrammed by Megatron's Robo-Smasher. Another contradictory account from "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4" claims that Long Haul was involved with Megatron's creation.
Heavy Metal War[]
Long Haul and the other Constructicons made their first appearance in this episode, aiding Megatron with his plan to defeat the Autobots through the manipulation of Cybertron law. They built a contraption that would take the power-chip rectifiers of the other Decepticons and imbue Megatron's body with their powers. Thus, Megatron would have an unfair advantage when he challenged Optimus Prime to "honourable" combat.
The Constructicons would later attempt to infiltrate the Autobots' headquarters and gain access to Teletraan-I, but were thwarted by the Dinobots. They demonstrated their true power by combining into Devastator, but the Dinobots and Optimus were still able to defeat them, driving them into a lava-filled fissure.
City of Steel[]
Long Haul and the other Constructicons aided Megatron with his conquest of New York City by converting the Empire State Building into a Cybertronian fortress.
The Core[]
While trying to dig to the Earth's core, Long Haul got a dominator disk stuck on him so that when he helped form Devastator, the combiner was brought under Autobot control. After Devastator sealed the Decepticons in a tunnel and helped rebuild some of the Autobot base, Megatron then revealed he knew of the Autobot plan to take control of the Constructicons, and deactivated the disks. After a fight for control, Long Haul, as Devastator, went berserk. After a joint Autobot/Decepticon effort, Devastator was brought under Decepticon control and helped to save the day.
Transformers: The Movie[]
In 2005, Long Haul and the other Constructicons joined Megatron's assault on Autobot City. Combining into Devastator, they demolished the city's defences, but Autobot reinforcements then arrived and the combiner was forced to battle the Dinobots.
After Megatron had fallen in battle against Optimus Prime, the Decepticons retreated aboard Astrotrain. Unable to get back to Cybertron due to carrying too much mass, he requested that his comrades lighten their load. The majority of the passengers agreed and the injured Decepticons - including Megatron - were cast out into space. Once Megatron was gone, the Decepticons began fighting amongst themselves for leadership of the faction, a fight which Starscream (somehow) won.
