Hardhead is an Autobot soldier as well as a Headmaster. A true jarhead, he's set in his ways and doesn't like having to adjust to suit the needs of others. When confronted with a new idea, Hardhead will typically try to ignore it or dismiss it. His stubbornness makes it difficult for the other Autobots to get along with him, though that same stubborn attitude has also gotten him out of many tough situations. When faced with overwhelming odds, Hardhead refuses to accept defeat and will fight on until the bitter end.

History[]

The Transformers (G1 cartoon)[]

In the series' three-part finale "The Rebirth", Hardhead was among the group of Autobots that crash-landed on the planet Nebulos after their ship was struck by a bolt of raw plasma energy. Not long after the crash, the group were captured by Gort and his rebel cell who believed that the Autobots were creations of the Hive.

It was not until the Decepticons arrived in pursuit of the Autobots that the Nebulons realized their error and freed their captives. However, in the ensuing skirmish, several Autobots were captured and Daniel Witwicky was severely injured. When Hardhead and the others attempted a rescue, they found that there were Hive machines everywhere. After hearing about the rebels' struggle against the Hive, Brainstorm realized that his idea of binary-bonding with humans (or rather Nebulons) needed to be put into practice, both to rescue his captured comrades and to help Gort's people defeat the Hive. With the aid of Spike Witwicky and Nebulon scientist Arcana, Brainstorm's idea was made into a reality and the Headmasters were born. Hardhead would find himself being binary-bonded with Nebulon combatant Duros.

The Headmasters proved to be a smashing success, both against the Hive and the Decepticons. However, Mo Zarak and the other Hive leaders had been watching the Headmasters make short work of their machines and decided that they could make use of this concept themselves. After making contact with Cyclonus and his crew, they not only binary-bonded with the heads of the Decepticon beasts but modified the remaining Decepticons' weapons in the same way, creating Targetmasters. When the Decepticons next attacked the Autobots with their new modifications, they managed to overwhelm the Autobots and steal back the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. After Optimus Prime arrived on Nebulos, Hardhead and the others showed him the enhancements they had undergone. The Autobots then pursued the Decepticons in order to retrieve the stolen Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. While they managed to take it back, it was robbed once more when Scorponok arose and captured Arcee, who was holding the Key. Scorponok then took flight towards Cybertron and the Autobots boarded Optimus' ship to pursue them, only to discover that Cybertron was no longer where it should have been as Galvatron had managed to move it to the Sol system. The crew eventually reached Cybertron and bore witness to the epic battle between Scorponok and Fortress Maximus, but by the battle's conclusion, the Plasma Energy Chamber had been opened, threatening to destroy not only Cybertron but the entire solar system. Hardhead and all the other Autobots had been disabled by the plasma energy, but Spike Witwicky and the Nebulons were able to save the day by shutting down the Chamber and redirecting its excess energy into Vector Sigma, thereby re-energizing all of Cybertron and beginning the planet's second Golden Age.
