The E-Series is a line of Badniks created by Dr. Eggman. These robots are generally more advanced than run-of-the-mill Badniks, coming in humanoid configurations and possessing more advanced weaponry, combat skills, and greater durability. Some models are mass-produced whereas others are unique in their design. The majority of these robots have an "E-" prefix to their names.
List of E-Series robots from the Sonic games[]
The E-Series made its first appearance in Sonic Adventure. Between Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes, all of the Badniks appearing in the console titles had serial numbers, which were mentioned in the instruction manuals of the Japanese releases of each game. At the time of Sonic Adventure's release, Dr. Eggman's western name "Dr. Robotnik" was being phased out of the game's continuity and so the term "Badnik" was also dropped, thus all of Eggman's robots were considered "E-Series". However, the Robotnik name would be subtly acknowledged in later titles and the term "Badnik" would be reintroduced in Sonic Rivals 2, though would be used sparingly in the games from then on.

Sonic X robots[]
In the Sonic X anime, Dr. Eggman's robots all have an E-Series number. While their numbers don't coincide with those of the game robots, they make no appearances in game canon, and (apart from the E-100 models) vice versa. In most episodes, Eggman uses a device resembling a slot machine to select one of several robots from a deck of cards.

- Ever since the Dreamcast era of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, the character of Dr. Robotnik has been called by his original Japanese name "Eggman" in Europe and the US. Along with his name change, his "Badnik" robots were from then on known as the E-Series (E for "egg") since the name "Badnik" no longer fit.
- Since Sonic Rivals 2 on the PlayStation Portable, Eggman's robots have returned to being referred to as Badniks, even though the doctor himself hasn't gone back to using the name Robotnik. In a cutscene in Rivals 2, Eggman verbally uses the term "Badnik", something that had never happened in previous games.
- In Sonic Lost World for the WiiU, Eggman has once again taken to referring to his robots as "Badniks".
