Doctor Ivo Robotnik is the main antagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise from Paramount. Based on the character of Dr. Eggman from the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series, he is an eccentric and narcissistic genius with a misanthropic view of the world and a desire for power. Initially working for the United States government, Robotnik secretly harboured his own ideas of global domination and began actively pursuing this goal following the discovery of Sonic, an alien resembling an anthropomorphic hedgehog who possessed the incredible power to move at supersonic speeds. Since his first encounter with Sonic, Robotnik has become obsessed with destroying the hedgehog and utilizing his power for his own selfish ends.

History[]

Early life[]

Little is known about Ivo Robotnik's past. What is known is that he was orphaned shortly after birth and never knew his biological parents. Supposedly, he displayed a great intellect from toddlerhood, though his intelligence was rarely acknowledged during his youth. Over the course of his life, Robotnik developed a fascination with science and a distinct resentment towards society, throwing himself into his scientific pursuits. He developed a particular aptitude for robotics, designing advanced drone technology, which would lead to him being employed by the United States government. During his government career, Robotnik and his technology proved instrumental in dealing with various incidents in other countries. While he had a perfect operations record, his superiors were usually hesitant to involve him in most affairs due to his personality disorders and social maladjustment.

In 2020, an electromagnetic pulse of unknown origin occurred in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, plunging the entire area into a blackout. Determined to find answers, the government assigned Dr. Robotnik with determining the cause of the blackout. The doctor and his assistant, Agent Stone, traveled to the small town of Green Hills, Montana where the phenomenon had originally occurred. Upon arriving in town, Robotnik was quick to assume command of the military unit already investigating the area, humiliating the team's commanding officer Major Bennington in the process. Using both the soldiers and his advanced Egg Drones, Robotnik began searching everywhere within a 10-mile radius of the EMP's origin point.

During the investigation, one of Robotnik's drones detected an unusual footprint in the forest. Analyzing the drone's scan of the footprint from his mobile laboratory, the doctor determined that it didn't belong to anything in Earth's animal kingdom. He traced the footprints to the residence of Tom Wachowski, Green Hills' local sheriff, and approached him at his front door while claiming to be a representative from the power company investigating the damage caused by the blackout. However, Tom was able to expose the doctor's lie by outwitting him. While they were talking, Robotnik had his Badniks carry out a reconnaissance sweep of the house. The doctor demanded to be let inside, threatening Tom when he denied him entry. After hearing a noise coming from inside, Robotnik shoved his way past Tom and went into the house, accompanied by one of his drones.

Robotnik quill

Inside the house's dining room, Robotnik discovered what appeared to be a bright blue quill. Knowing that Tom was hiding something, the doctor had his drone prime its weapons and take aim at Tom, threatening to kill him if he didn't tell him where the creature that shed the quill was hiding. Suddenly, a spiny blue creature - Sonic - appeared in the room and begged Robotnik not to hurt Tom. Shocked by the creature's appearance, Robotnik screamed in alarm. Tom took advantage of the doctor's surprise and punched him in the face, knocking him to the floor. He and Sonic managed to take down Robotnik's drone and then fled, driving away in Tom's truck. As Sonic and Tom were escaping, Agent Stone came to Robotnik's aid. The doctor reprimanded Stone for prioritizing him over capturing the alien, but resolved to hunt down Sonic and dissect him to find out what made him tick. He told Stone to bring the quill as he made his way back to his truck-based lab.

Occupying the Green Hills Sheriff's Department, Robotnik and his agents personally overheard a conversation between Tom and Wade Whipple when the former called him. Growing impatient, Robotnik snatched the phone from Wade and told Tom of how he had gotten on his bad side. As Robotnik threatened Tom however, Tom hung up. Leaving Wade behind, Robotnik traced Tom's last known location to a biker bar called The Piston Pit, where he and Agent Stone managed to successfully interrogate a roadhouse thug who had met Sonic and Tom earlier.

Tasty quill

Having deduced that the pair were heading for San Francisco, Robotnik calculated their approximate location and sent an armoured tank-like Badnik after them. When Sonic destroyed this Badnik however, Robotnik deployed a smaller one from the wreckage to continue the chase. Though Sonic managed to destroy this Badnik as well, Robotnik released a one-wheeled Badnik from its wreckage. However, it was destroyed by Tom, infuriating the doctor. Using his last resort, Robotnik launched a miniature Badnik from the wreckage that crippled Tom's truck and got a bomb stuck on Sonic. Unfortunately for Robotnik, Sonic and Tom managed to remove the bomb before it blew up. Frustrated by his failure, Robotnik was about to take it out on Agent Stone, but then noticed Sonic's quill was pulsating with energy. Deciding to analyze the quill, Robotnik ran a number of analyses while putting on his own little performance for his own amusement until Agent Stone interrupted him with a latte. It was then that Robotnik discovered that Sonic's quill held unlimited energy. Realizing his machines could reach their full potential with this power, he ordered Agent Stone to ready his latest prototype vehicle: the Eggpod.

Dr-Robotnik-pushing-button

Taking the Eggpod and his Badniks to San Francisco, Robotnik cornered Sonic, Tom and his wife Maddie on top of the Transamerica Pyramid. After bantering with the trio, Robotnik saw, to his slight surprise, Sonic push Tom and Maddie off the Pyramid. As his Badniks fired upon Sonic however, he used his super speed to dodge Robotnik's assault and go after Tom and Maddie. However, by harnessing the power of Sonic's quill, which had been installed into the Eggpod, Robotnik gave his vehicle the power to keep up with Sonic. The doctor proceeded to fire upon Sonic, nearly foiling Sonic's plan to send Tom and Maddie to Green Hills with a warp ring. With Sonic refusing to surrender himself to him, Robotnik began chasing Sonic in his Eggpod, following him through the ring portals he made. After their chase having led them through Paris, along the Great Wall of China, and into Egypt, Robotnik managed to get a shot in on Sonic, sending him flying through a ring portal to Green Hills. Arriving in the town's main street himself, Robotnik loomed over the injured Sonic before the latter passed out. However, Robotnik was interrupted when Tom got behind him using a ring and surprised him with a sneak attack.

While he managed to knock Tom off the Eggpod, Robotnik found himself being confronted by the residents of Green Hills, who all stepped in to defend Sonic. The doctor arrogantly rebuked the townsfolk, stating that Sonic was a "silly little alien" who didn't belong there, but Tom responded that Sonic was his friend. Sonic soon got to his feet again, announcing that he wasn't going to let anyone take his power and that he would use it to protect his friends. Undaunted, Robotnik targeted Sonic and launched a barrage of missiles at him. However, Sonic avoided them all and proceeded to attack the Eggpod with a series of high-speed strikes. While Robotnik was distracted by Sonic's assault, Tom had opened a ring portal behind the Eggpod that led to a planet filled with mushrooms. With one final strike, Sonic sent the Eggpod - and Robotnik - hurtling backward into the portal which vanished once he passed through.

Robotnik mushroom planet

Robotnik survived his defeat, though he was now stranded on the Mushroom Planet, alone and lacking any resources beyond mushrooms and whatever he could salvage from the wrecked Eggpod. Three months into his isolation, his already-precarious mental state had degraded as he had taken to talking to a rock that looked vaguely like a face, naming it "Stone" after his assistant. He had also shaved his head and grown out his moustache which had become wild and unkempt. Despite his lack of supplies or support, he remained confident that he would make it home "by Christmas".

Eight months into his isolation, surviving on nothing but mushrooms and sheer force of will, Robotnik would finally achieve his goal of returning to Earth. Having dismantled the Eggpod to turn its components into a transmitter, he powered the contraption using Sonic's chaos energy-infused quill and succeeded in sending a signal out into the stars. The energy pulse given off by the transmitter knocked the doctor unconscious. When he awoke hours later, he witnessed a ring portal open before him. Emerging from the portal was a group of masked alien scavengers who, upon sighting the blue quill in his possession, attempted to take it. However, Robotnik had set up traps made from vines and rocks around his camp and the scavengers fell victim to them. With the aliens incapacitated. Robotnik approached the portal, but fell back after bumping into another alien who stepped out of it. The red-furred alien, who would later identify himself as Knuckles the Echidna, asked Robotnik where he acquired the quill. Robotnik told Knuckles that he obtained it on Earth and would happily show him the way there. Thus the two struck a deal: Knuckles would take Robotnik back to Earth and Robotnik would show the echidna where, rather whom, he got the quill from.

Arriving in Green Hills during the night, Robotnik once again visited the Wachowski residence where he found that Sonic was living there and was on his own. Using a cutting tool built into his glove, he cut the power to the house and then cut the front door open when Sonic went to open it. While Sonic insisted that Robotnik made a mistake by coming back, the mad scientist told him otherwise as he promised revenge against him and the Wachowskis. As Sonic then charged at him, Robotnik stepped aside for Knuckles to take on Sonic. From there, Robotnik stood on the sidelines, watching with excitement as Sonic got pummeled by Knuckles as their fight ensued. During this however, Robotnik heard Knuckles mention the "ultimate power", which caught the doctor's interest. Soon after though, an anthropomorphic fox called Tails arrived in a police car and saved Sonic from Knuckles by ramming him with said car. As Sonic and Tails were about to drive away however, Robotnik jumped onto the car's hood, snarling like a rabid animal until he got thrown off of it.

After Sonic and Tails escaped, Robotnik pursued them and Knuckles on a riding mower, only to catch up to them in time to see Tails fly Sonic away. In order to proceed with his plans, Robotnik used his control glove to call Agent Stone, who sent down an orbital space pod with new clothes and Badniks. After washing, dressing and re-equipping, Robotnik emerged from the pod proclaiming that he had been "re-hatched". Finding Knuckles on the cliffside below him, he asked Knuckles about the "ultimate power" he spoke of. Knuckles, however, told him that this power, the Master Emerald, did not concern him now that their deal was over. Insisting otherwise, Robotnik used his Badniks to help Knuckles up from the cliff and explained to him that he needed his expertise on Earth. Furthermore, he convinced Knuckles that he would help him find the Master Emerald so that he could use it to destroy Sonic. With Knuckles seeing that he was suggesting an alliance, Robotnik had them seal their deal with a handshake (which crushed his hand). They then took the doctor's Egg Mobile to rendezvous with Agent Stone, who was now operating a coffee shop in Green Hills that covered a hidden laboratory for he and the doctor to operate from.

At the Mean Bean, Robotnik received his favourite beverage from Stone, noting that it could use some mushroom. Converting the café into a command centre, the doctor used the computers available to intercept text messages sent between Sonic and Tom Wachowski, who was out of town. Agent Stone noted Knuckles' lack of understanding of technology and asked the doctor why they were working with him. Robotnik told Stone about the Master Emerald and how he intended to steal it for himself and use it to power his wildest designs and get his genius recognised across Earth and beyond. After determining that Sonic's call had originated from Siberia, Robotnik headed back to the Egg Mobile with Knuckles in tow.

SM2 HeChoseTheFox

The Egg Mobile later arrived in Siberia where Robotnik and Knuckles discovered Sonic and Tails inside an ancient owl temple, having discovered a mystical compass that could lead them to the Master Emerald. Following some banter with Sonic, Robotnik fired a missile at him, only for Sonic to redirect it into a statue, causing the entire temple to start collapsing. Sonic and Tails, however, managed to escape through an opening. As the duo then split up, Robotnik went after Tails while Knuckles and his swarm of Badniks went after Sonic. During the ensuing pursuit, Robotnik managed to snatch the compass when Sonic tried passing it onto Tails, before firing a pair of missiles that knocked out Tails. As an avalanche then occurred, Knuckles and Robotnik took their leave in the Egg Mobile. As they did however, Knuckles noticed that Sonic prioritized Tails over the compass, which Robotnik regarded as a weakness.

SM2 RobotnikMine

Using one of Knuckles' Warp Rings, Robotnik and Knuckles arrived on a small island in the Pacific Ocean. The compass in their possession revealed the ancient temple housing the Master Emerald hidden in the middle of the sea. Entering the temple, Knuckles and Robotnik found themselves in a great labyrinth filled to the brim with traps. After barely avoiding the first traps, which cost the doctor most of his Badniks, Robotnik decided to work smarter by deploying some reconnaissance drones that he used to map out the labyrinth for them. Eventually arriving in the Master Emerald's chamber, Robotnik decided he had no further use for Knuckles as the latter proclaimed pride in their collaboration. Before he could taser Knuckles with his control glove however, Sonic arrived in-between them and the Master Emerald. While Robotnik was disgusted by Sonic's motivation, he nonetheless began sneaking up to the Master Emerald while Sonic and Knuckles were busy fighting each other. When Knuckles finally noticed Robotnik's attempt to take the Master Emerald though, the madman mocked Knuckles for his gullibility and lack of foresight as he called out the doctor for betraying their friendship. Grabbing the Master Emerald, Robotnik proceeded to vanish in a flash of energy.

Robotnik soon after reappeared in the Mean Bean Coffee Café, where Agent Stone had been apprehended by Wade Whipple. In his elevated state of power, Robotnik adjusted himself to his new abilities as he teleported around, quickly forcing Wade to surrender while freeing Agent Stone. Stone proceeded to warn him that G.U.N. had the café surrounded, but Robotnik revealed that he had a solution to this. Heading outside, the doctor faced Commander Walters, Tom, Maddie and a squad of G.U.N. soldiers. There, Walters told Robotnik that he was finished, as the government had seized all his assets. In response, the doctor used his newfound powers to pull in G.U.N.'s arsenal and various other metallic and mechanical components from the environment. All the various scrap components were drawn into a maelstrom of chaos energy as Robotnik used his emerald powers to combine them into his latest and greatest creation: a massive robot built in his visage. Putting himself in control of the giant machine, with Agent Stone as his co-pilot, Robotnik had the enormous mech trample around Green Hills, forcing G.U.N. to retreat.

SM2 AllPowerful

Soon after though, Sonic and Tails showed up in a bi-plane. Though frustrated by Sonic's constant returns, Robotnik decided to shoot him down with a missile barrage. Since Stone had yet to figure out the controls though, Robotnik did it for him, inadvertently electrocuting Stone in the process. Though Sonic and Tails slipped through the barrage, he did manage to catch Sonic with one missile. Knuckles then arrived, but Robotnik had his robot's hand deal with this when Knuckles tried attacking him head on. Tails then tried shooting at the giant robot with the plane's guns, but Agent Stone managed to use the robot's 'Stache Smasher feature to make the plane crash. However, Robotnik was left alone when Sonic returned with the missile and directed it into the robot, which shook the machine enough to knock Stone out.

SM2 PunchLight

Robotnik sent out his Badniks to take out Team Sonic, but the trio easily dealt with them. Sonic came up to the robot and challenged Robotnik himself. Falling for Sonic's goading, Robotnik began following the hedgehog out of Green Hills. As Sonic neared a bridge leading out of town, Robotnik blew it up with his robot's nose laser, sending a weakened Sonic plummeting down. As the doctor gloated about his superiority to the grounded Sonic however, he discovered that he was all-seeing as well, which let him notice Tails break into the robot's cockpit. As Tails began confusing him with holographic images of himself, Robotnik cast numerous energy blasts from his hands in the hopes of striking the fox. However, Tails told him that he was just a distraction. It was then that Robotnik discovered Knuckles nearby, who managed to punch the Master Emerald out of him. Without his powers, Robotnik's mech shut down, leaving Tails, Knuckles, and the Master Emerald to slide out of the robot.

SM2 LaterHater

Recovering, Robotnik got to his feet and activated the robot's auxiliary power. Assuming control over his robot again using the manual controls, he had his machine walk towards a weakened Sonic as he went to retrieve the Master Emerald. Before Robotnik could crush Sonic beneath his giant robot's foot, Tom and Maddie swooped by in a truck and picked up both Sonic and the Master Emerald. In response, Robotnik had his robot topple their truck and trap them within a ring of fire. As Robotnik brought his robot's foot down upon the trio, he thought he had finally gotten Sonic. Unfortunately for him, Sonic managed to tap into the emerald's power, transforming into Super Sonic in the last moment. In this form, Sonic stopped the robot's stomp and cut off its head, exposing Robotnik. As Robotnik tried talking Sonic into a truce however, he used his control glove in an attempt to punch Sonic with the mech's fists. Sonic, however, easily stopped the attacks and pierced the robot several times before tipping it over, leaving Robotnik to fall with it.

Following the battle, G.U.N. swept the crash site, but they were unable to find any trace of Robotnik. Agent Stone had survived the battle, however, and had managed to rescue Robotnik while disguised as a G.U.N. trooper, sneaking away without being noticed.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Dr. Robotnik's big, fat belly

For some time after his previous defeat, Robotnik had remained in hiding while also staying on the move with his Mecha Crab mobile base. During this period, the doctor had been living in squalor, surviving on junk food while spending most of his time watching Latino soap operas. In late 2024, unbeknownst to Robotnik, some one had stolen several of the doctor's Egg Drones and used them to attack Sonic and his friends, as well as assassinate Commander Walters. Agent Stone had investigated this activity on the doctor's behalf and even helped Sonic, Tails and Knuckles escape from the Badnik attack. Bringing the three heroes back to the Mecha Crab, Stone informed them and Robotnik regarding the Egg Drone theft and that the perpetrator had been tracked to an abandoned G.U.N. base. The doctor agreed to an alliance with Team Sonic to find the thief, on the condition that Sonic give him one of his quills. Sonic hesitantly agreed and, after licking the quill and receiving a jolt of its chaos energy, Robotnik was ready to get to work.

After Robotnik was sufficiently groomed and dressed, he took Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Stone to the site of the abandoned G.U.N. facility. As the team split up to investigate the area, the doctor made it quite clear how much he hated the idea of working with Sonic, throwing various insults and snide comments his way. While exploring, Robotnik discovered his stolen Egg Drones and came face-to-face with the man who had taken them: his own grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. Robotnik was stunned, having never known any of his biological family before, making it rather easy for Gerald to convince him to join him in his own quest for revenge against G.U.N..

Ivo and gerald

Ivo and his grandfather Gerald joined forces and left the G.U.N. base aboard the Mecha Crab after Shadow the Hedgehog had chained up Sonic, Tails and Knuckles and left them to die via a black hole bomb that annihilated the base and the mountain it was built into. Aboard the Crab, Gerald told Ivo about his plan to avenge his granddaughter Maria using a superweapon he had invented for G.U.N.: the Eclipse Cannon. With some time to kill before they reached G.U.N. Headquarters, the two Robotniks decided to make up for lost time and spend some bonding time in a virtual-reality simulation of Ivo's design. This gave Ivo the time to enjoy many things he had missed out on during his childhood, having no caring parental figures in his life until now. Little did he realise that Gerald didn't much care for him either and was only using him to advance his plan for revenge.

Eggmen Dance

They are the Eggmen!

Working together, the two successfully infiltrated G.U.N. Headquarters using specialized suits to disguise themselves. They made it to the vault where one of two keycards they needed to deploy the Eclipse Cannon was located; however, Director Rockwell, having anticipated someone would come for the keycard, was able to subdue Ivo and Gerald, along with Sonic, via a gravity manipulation system. Knuckles arrived to rescue Sonic, Tails, Tom, and Maddie, destroying Rockwell's control panel and causing everyone to be affected by the system, including Rockwell and her G.U.N. soldiers. Ivo attempted to grab the keycard after Rockwell dropped it, despite the increased gravity keeping him and Rockwell pinned down, but after Sonic shorted out the system with his chaos energy to protect Tom, Maddie, and Tails from being crushed by debris from Knuckles breaking into the building, Rockwell was able to recover it first, but later gave it to Tom when he appeared to her disguised as Commander Walters, only to then be assaulted by Shadow, allowing Ivo and Gerald to attain both keycards. In the meantime, Agent Stone had sensed something was not right and Gerald and Shadow were hiding something from Ivo, but when he tried to warn the doctor, Ivo dismissed him.

Robotnik Gets Spanked

With both keycards in their possession, Ivo and Gerald launched the Eclipse Cannon satellite, which rose up from the River Thames. Once the satellite was in orbit, Shadow began charging up the weapon with chaos energy. Ivo was excited by the prospect of using the Eclipse Cannon to take over the world and rule it along with his grandfather, but Gerald soon revealed that that was never his intention: he wanted only to avenge his granddaughter Maria by using the Eclipse Cannon to destroy the Earth. Shocked by this revelation, Ivo pleaded with his grandfather to reconsider, reminding them of their familial bond. Gerald simply stated that Ivo didn't compare to Maria, refusing to rescind his decision. Realising that his grandfather's lust for vengeance had driven him mad, Ivo attempted to stop him. Both Robotniks began fighting each other using the nano-tech gadgets built into their jackets. Despite Gerald's advanced age, he managed to overcome Ivo's assault, beating and humiliating his grandson in the process. As the two fought, Gerald shattered a glass dome in the lower area of the satellite and threw his grandson to his apparent death.

Luckily, just as Gerald thought he had won, Ivo returned, thanks to help from Tails and Knuckles. Wielding Sonic's quill, which had become super-charged after Sonic's transformation into Super Sonic, he jabbed it into his grandfather's backside and the energy surge launched Gerald into the stream of Shadow's chaos energy, disintegrating him. However, with the Eclipse Cannon about to fire, Ivo, Tails, and Knuckles attempt to divert the beam away from Earth, while Super Sonic and Super Shadow tried to hold it off for as long as they could. Just as Sonic's strength faltered and he reverted back to his normal state, they managed to divert the beam safely away from Earth, but at the cost of slicing off part of the Moon in the process. Worse, the Eclipse Cannon's core had gone into meltdown, just as Gerald planned, and the resulting explosion would reduce the Earth to an irradiated wasteland. While Knuckles and Tails went after Sonic, Robotnik teamed up with Shadow to move the Eclipse Cannon away from Earth and stabilize the core.

Robotnik Super Shadow

Realising that he probably couldn't escape this time, Robotnik transmitted a live video feed to Earth to send a final message to Agent Stone. He stated that Stone was more than just a sycophant, but a "syco-friend", giving his former lackey a fond farewell and praising him for the way he made lattes for him. As the Eclipse Cannon satellite reached a safe distance, the reactor then exploded, vaporising the entire structure and seemingly killing both Robotnik and Shadow.

NOTE: Despite the apparent finality of his situation, there remains a possibility that Robotnik could have survived. Since Shadow possesses a teleportation ability and had assumed a super-state prior to the Eclipse Cannon's destruction - not to mention Shadow's survival was confirmed in a post-credit scene - it is entirely possible that he rescued Robotnik at the last moment. Additionally, Sonic is attacked by a group of Metal Sonic robots in a mid-credits scene; Metal Sonic has always been a creation of Robotnik's in every Sonic continuity.

Appearance[]

Dr. Robotnik is an average-sized human. He originally possessed dark brown (almost black) hair, light peach skin, brown eyes, a short moustache with curls at the sides and ample stubble across his jawline. His hair was usually combed back, and his moustache was usually thin and dark brown (almost black) with handlebar curls at the ends. For attire, he usually wore a black trench coat with customized tails and red piping, a dark grey tunic, black trousers, black shoes, small rectangular sunglasses and a pair of black gloves. When later piloting his Eggpod, he donned a red flight suit with black, maroon and reddish gray accents with matching fingerless gloves, black shoes, and black conjoined welding-like suction goggles having red photochromic lenses that alter to orange, yellow or black.

After spending nearly 3 months alone on the Mushroom Planet, Robotnik adopted a significantly different appearance: he shaved his head completely bald, he let his moustache become overgrown, unkempt, and more mahogany in color, his nose gained a notable pinkish-red sunburn, one of the lenses on his goggles were broken, and the sleeves of his flight suit had been torn off. Additionally, his eyes are more sunken with dark circles around them, and have notable wrinkles and dark circles around them which was likely due to all the stress he had endured on the said planet. Overtime, his flight suit got dirtier and darker, and his moustache got greasier as a result of his lack of hygiene for all these months.

After escaping the Mushroom Planet with Knuckles' help, Robotnik cleaned himself up and changed his outfit, wearing a red and black overcoat with a high collar having four triangular golden buttons at the front, black pants, black shoes with golden lines at the front and new control gloves similar to the ones he was first seen wearing in his debut. He most likely replaced his old damaged goggles with a new pair being the same as his previous ones (with some detail added at the sides). He also wore a black shirt underneath.

When transforming into his Emerald form, his attire turned all black with green accents and the lenses of his goggles turn into blue or green.

After spending an unknown amount of time in hiding, Robotnik would develop overgrown hair and an unkempt moustache, one of the lenses of his goggles was cracked. He also gained some obesity and wore a red dressing gown alongside a white vest and stone gray jogging bottoms and his eyes look a lot more sunken and depraved than before. After that, Agent Stone shaved all his hair off his head, trimmed his moustache back to the way it was previously, and gave him a new pair of suction goggles. After that, he still wore his previous jacket, although it was all worn and torn up from the previous battle and continued to wear it when going on his mission with Sonic. He ripped off Agent Stone's shirt to create his own since he needed room for his fat belly and had some black and red cloth wrapped around his waist.

Later on, he received new attire being a big red zip-up jacket with two white lines with black accents going on top of each other surrounding his waist to the front and connected to a total of four detailed golden ingot-like parallelogram-shaped buttons with another additional four at the back and another silver line on the latter, a highly detailed giant golden circle at each side at the front of the coat's waist surrounded by circuitboard-like patterns and wears a black top underneath and silver zip-like lines go at the sides of the shoulders with circuitboard patterns surrounding them. His coat's collar has black ridges on the inside and two white lines go at the back of his shoulders connected to red buckles seen on top of the chest area once again surrounded by circuitboard-like patterns. He even gained new gloves, albeit this time in white connected to black gauntlets with some silverish-gold fingertips. In addition, he once again wore a new pair of his signature goggles with the lenses turned back to red like they were originally.

Personality[]

Dr. Robotnik is an eccentric, narcissistic psychopath with a tremendous ego and towering superiority complex. He harbours a misanthropic outlook on the world and considers everyone to be inferior to him due to his great intellect. He prides himself on his intelligence, considering himself to be the smartest man on the planet Earth. As such, he quickly becomes angry should anybody happen to outwit him in any way, such as when he lies to Tom Wachowski about being a power company representative and Tom immediately susses him out.

Robotnik generally hates other people, preferring the company of his own machines and seems to only tolerate others for as long as they are useful to him. He tolerates Agent Stone's presence since Stone has proven to be a competent assistant and his sycophantic adoration for him as it fuels the doctor's ego. He also highly enjoys the coffees that Stone makes for him. Despite all that, he otherwise has little care for Stone and has told him plainly that he wouldn't miss him if he were gone. This may not be entirely true, of course, since Robotnik began talking to a rock that he named "Stone" while he was stranded on the Mushroom Planet.

While Robotnik was already a hateful person before being stranded on the Mushroom Planet, his isolation and his desire for revenge against Sonic only stoked his hatred. Since then, he has become wholly obsessed with destroying Sonic, who he views as the one obstacle standing between him and his goal of world domination.

It is also worth noting that, despite his miserly and hateful tendencies, Robotnik actually had longed for familial connection. Before meeting his grandfather Gerald, he had never known any members of his family, but was overjoyed to learn that he had a living relative. Seeing that his grandfather was as villainous as he was, Ivo was thrilled at the possibility of conquering the world side by side with Gerald, although he was deeply disappointed to find out that Gerald planned to destroy the Earth rather than rule it. This is yet another trait that Robotnik shares with his video game counterpart; despite his evilness and insanity, he very much wants to rule the Earth and make it - in his eyes, at least - a better place and does not wish to destroy everything.

Powers and abilities[]

Robotnik is a brilliant scientist, boasting 5 PhDs and an IQ of 300. He was a child prodigy, able to articulate advanced formulas supposedly from his toddlerhood. As an adult, he has used his great intellect to design and build a series of advanced robotic drones and other machines which he can control remotely with a pair of specially-designed gloves. He is so intelligent in fact that he was able to accurately determine Sonic's exact height, weight and entire skeletal structure based on nothing but a footprint of his, and determine and harness the power of Sonic's alien biology. He has also been expertly trained to spot tracks by the Native American Shadow Wolves. He is also multilingual, being able to speak at least English, Japanese, and French, and possibly more. He also has keen vehicle intuition, being able to expertly pilot his Eggpod through the narrow streets of San Francisco at speeds compatible to Sonic's while taking accurate shots at Sonic.

Robotnik also has impressive survival skills. After being stranded on the Mushroom Planet with nothing but his wrist device and the scrap of his Eggpod, he was able to survive for 8 months and built complex booby-traps, an interplanetary signal beacon, and other complex contraptions, primarily using the local fungi. Despite his skinny body type, Robotnik also appears to be quite a strong man as he was able to directly punch an oversized man out of the window without even trying, although in some occasions he somewhat struggled to lift a heavy rock.

After absorbing the power of the Master Emerald, Robotnik - dubbed "Emerald Eggman" in this state - gained tremendous supernatural abilities. With the emerald's reality-bending properties, he became a god-like being that was all-knowing and all-seeing. He demonstrated the powers of flight, levitation, telekinesis, energy projection, teleportation and technokinesis. He lost all of these powers once Knuckles punched the Master Emerald out of him.
