The Death Egg Robot Mk. II is a gargantuan-sized Super Badnik created by Dr. Eggman. It is a mass-produced variant of the original Death Egg Robot, but unlike the original, these models are autonomous and do not require a pilot to operate. These deadly machines made their debut in Sonic Forces.

Description[]

The mass-produced Death Egg Robot resembles the original Death Egg Robot, though it is much larger and has a more militaristic aesthetic. It is black and grey all over with magenta highlights on the midriff and in the sockets where the legs connect to the lower torso. It sports longer arms in proportion to the rest of the body compared to the original Death Egg Robot. Its head is also not decorated to resemble Eggman's face; the head is white and sports a single red optic sensor and mouth grille. Finally, while the Mark II appears to have a jet-pack like the original Death Egg Robot, it is never shown using it, therefore it is unclear if these robots can fly or not.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Forces[]

SFCH31

During the War to Take Back the Planet, Dr. Eggman deployed numerous Death Egg Robots to crush any and all resistance to the expansion of the Eggman Empire. With their tremendous size and strength, these robots would march into cities and demolish everything in their path, leaving flattened ruins that Eggman could later pave over and build on top of. Lacking weaponry of similar scope, the Resistance had a hard time fighting these Super Badniks. This would change after Sonic was rescued and joined the war effort. With his speed and acrobatic skills, he was able to reach the elevation needed to strike the robots' weak spot: their optics.

In gameplay, Death Egg Robots are mostly regulated to the background scenery in the stages they appear in. However, a quicktime event in the Red Gate Bridge stage sees Sonic and the Avatar confront a Mark II directly, attacking it by performing a combo attack on its eye, blasting through its optic lens and destroying its laser firing chamber, resulting in the colossal robot collapsing.

Team Sonic Racing[]

TSRFrozen-Junkyard-Promo1

In Team Sonic Racing, a Death Egg Robot appears in the Frozen Junkyard racetrack. Here, it is embedded in a huge glacier. Every now and then however, it will shoot two laser beams from its eyes down on the road below. These lasers will then move along two out of six orange-glowing lines that are burned into the road; if the player touches these lasers, they will take damage and spin out temporarily. Should the player make it past these lasers, the players will jump into the loop contained within the robot. After passing through this loop, the player will then reach the finish line.

Besides Frozen Junkyard, a Death Egg Robot also appears on the Dark Arsenal race track. This robot appears in the center of the track and is under construction. Under its arms are two Bumper-based trampolines that the player can use to take a shortcut. However, the player has to watch out for the burners that occasionally ignite under the Death Egg Robot's arms, which can knock the racers into the abyss.

Sonic Frontiers[]

Sonic Frontiers destroyed Death Egg Robot

In Sonic Frontiers, Dr. Eggman attempted a full invasion of the Starfall Islands, but found himself trapped in Cyber Space after attempting to activate one of the Ancients' gate pillars. The robots he had brought with him were either left inactive within his outposts on the island or were destroyed by the Ancients' own robots. A Death Egg Robot had been deployed on Chaos Island, but even that was destroyed and left entrenched in the ground.

When Sonic arrived on Chaos Island, he discovered the inactive Death Egg Robot. On Tails' request, he powered up a nearby control panel and activated the robot's laser, blasting a cave into the rock face ahead and revealing a secret pathway leading underground.

Capabilities[]

  • Armoured Hull - The Mark II's body is covered in thick metallic armour that is impervious to all but the highest caliber weapons.
  • Telescopic Arms - The Death Egg Robot's arms are extendable ram-rods that thrust forward to smash through obstacles in its way.
  • Laser - The Mark II can fire a powerful energy beam from its eye that can carve through buildings and vehicles, as well as vaporize any organic body caught in its range.

Weaknesses[]

The Death Egg Robot's only real weakness is its eye, which is the only part of its body that isn't armoured. Sonic and the Avatar were able to bring one down by smashing through its eye, damaging its laser's firing chamber and its brain circuitry.

Appearances in other media[]

IDW Publishing[]

Death Egg Robot sentinels and Egg Pawns

Death Egg Robots have appeared briefly in the pages of IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series. In Issue #3, a pair of these robots were guarding Barricade Town under the command of Rough and Tumble, but were brought down by Knuckles the Echidna when he and Sonic arrived to liberate the town. In the comic, they shared the same orange and yellow colour scheme as the Egg Pawn Badniks.
