Advanced mechanoids that appear more human or at least less "mechanical" than other robots. In addition to imitating human appearance, they also simulate some aspects of behavioural autonomy. It is a term first mentioned by Albert the Great in 1270 and popularized by French author Auguste Villiers in his 1886 novel Future Eve.
