In the storyline established in Sonic the Comic, Dr. Robotnik achieved his goal of conquering the planet Mobius. To enforce his rule, the doctor created a new army of Badnik Troopers. The Troopers were quite different from the usual sort of Badniks in that they were humanoid rather than based on various animals and insects. They also did not run on organic batteries like other Badniks.
Design[]
The Badnik Troopers appeared as tall, imposing humanoid robots with skull-like faces. They were typically adorned in red body armour and bucket-shaped helmets. They were more intelligent than other Badniks as well, displaying a variety of emotions and taking a distinct pleasure in enforcing Robotnik's harsh laws. Troopers would carry a variety of weapons including laser blasters, machine guns, electrical whips, staffs and batons.
History[]
Badnik Troopers first appeared in Sonic the Comic Issue 9 in the Sonic story, "Back to Reality". With the whole of Mobius under Robotnik's control, the Troopers had been deployed in numerous Zones across the planet, acting as soldiers, police, guards and enforcers. They would be stationed within all of Robotnik's factories and facilities, at border gates between Zones, in labour camps and on the streets. They would frequently invade the homes of citizens and take innocent people away for imprisonment or Badnik proccessing, simply to remind the populace that Robotnik was in charge (and often just because the doctor found it amusing). In STC's 100th issue, Mobius was engulfed by an electromagnetic pulse that disabled all of Robotnik's technology across the planet, wiping out his entire Badnik army in one fell swoop.
