The Assembler Sentinel is a type of Strato-Sentinel used by the Forerunners in the Halo universe. These great machines were used build various installations across the Forerunner Ecumene, including the Halo rings.
Overview[]
Design[]
With an overall design similar to that of other Strato-Sentinels like the Steward Sentinel, the Assembler Sentinel consists of a vaguely disc-shaped, ovoid body with three central luminous ocular sensor "eyes." Some Assembler Sentinels incorporate tower-like protrusions at the edges of its upper surface, while others do not. Beneath the Assembler's large body hangs several gravitic grappler appendages. Alongside these grapplers, Assemblers also feature integrated energy shielding and warship-grade directed-energy projectors for defense.
Operation[]
Assembler Sentinels are predominantly designed and employed for the construction, maintenance, fabrication, transportation, and reconditioning of large superstructures. They typically work alongside Retriever Sentinels, utilising the resources harvested by the Retrievers for the construction of large structures such as Halo rings. Assemblers may also be utilised to conduct finishing work on structures emerging from large construction looms.
Although they were not initially designed for combat, they will suspend their primary duties to engage Flood forms in the event of an outbreak.
History[]
During the Forerunner-Flood war, Assemblers were sometimes used in an offensive role against the Flood, using their gravitic grapplers against the parasite in a limited offensive capacity. Toward the war's end, Assemblers were used to construct the Excession on Earth.
The Foundry of Installation 00 is populated by numerous Assemblers, as well as Retrievers. While the Retrievers extract resources and minerals from the small moon held there, the Assemblers use the materials to build components of the Halo Array and to repair the Ark, if required. Assemblers were used alongside Extractor Sentinels to construct Installation 08.
